2017 Wagga Wagga History Regatta

A good weekend for our annual regatta with reasonable if variable winds. Mixed weather from sunny to stormy with thunder and lightning, rain and wind squalls - one big one in particular on Saturday afternoon that caused a stir with some extreme capsizes and one boat running for the shore. We had four Griffith boats in attendance. All very much appreciated the closed waters on Sunday with no wakes to worry about. These were a bit of a problem on the Saturday in the lulls. Winds, particularly, on Saturday seemed to be even more variable in direction and speed than usual. A big thanks to the GSC sailors for attending and making us so welcome a month ago at their regatta and Round 1 of the Club Challenge. Also to Rod Anderson who made the effort to attend both regattas and raced very well with his Maricat against the Griffith Maricats for us. If Rod can make the effort to attend both from Tumut I'm sure there are some other Wagga sailors that can put in and travel to Griffith. We would very much like to see a good contingent at the next Griffith (Laurie Meline Memorial) regatta in Feb 18 (10-11 Feb 18 TBC).

Well done to all and congratulations WWSC for winning the Challenge.

Huge thanks to Doug Gilson and Leanne Ward for race officiating. As you can see, there was a tie for first place that Brad won on a countback with two wins vs one win for Garry, and Jon very close behind. So some very close racing in the multihulls and Brad's win was despite a spectacular capsize in Race 2 during the big squall, he was certainly getting plenty of trapeze practice.

Regards Geoff

WWSC Secretary
